Boston Heroes 5-on-5 Flag Footbal Tournament

On March 26, 2014 Boston lost two of its finest sons a in a tragic 9-alarm fire  in Boston’s Back Bay.  Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh Jr. and Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy lost their lives while valiantly battling one of Boston’s devastating fires in recent memory. Many of their fellow comrades also were injured while fighting the extremes of the fire to rescue residents of the apartment building. For the bravery of these two individuals and all the firemen who serve our community to keep us safe, we salute you.

“Our hearts are heavy with the knowledge that these brave men gave their lives to protect the safety of our city and its people. A day like today makes us all too aware of what they are risking in the course of doing their jobs. They are heroes simply by virtue of accepting this duty.”
– Boston Mayor Marty Walsh

In honor of these fallen heroes, friends of Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh Jr. and Firefighter Michael “Dork” Kennedy will be hosting a friends and family sports day to celebrate these two heroes’ lives.

Proceeds from the contributions to the 5-on-5 flag football tournament and kids activities will be given to Lieutenant Walsh’s widow and children.

The Heroes Tournament will be hosted by Catholic Memorial of West Roxbury and managed and officiated by CCFL Boston. We would like to thank BJs of Dedham for their contributions along with many of the other donors and volunteers. We will have more details in the coming week.
