About CCFL Boston
A tradition of competitive flag football in Greater Boston since 2000.
Our Story
The CCFL was originally formed in 2000 as the Cleveland Circle Football League. What began as a neighborhood football league, with aspirations of modeling itself after competitive college intramural sports, soon became something much bigger.
In its early days, the newly formed league petitioned Boston Mayor Thomas Menino for permission to use the multipurpose grass fields at Cleveland Circle in Brighton, Massachusetts.
Early supporters from Boston Sports Journal, Cityside Bar, and Red Hook Brewery formed a partnership to help establish and promote a men's flag football league throughout the City of Boston.
What began as the brainchild of Andrew Tamayo, who has served as league commissioner since its founding in 2000, has grown into a successful citywide football league.
Over the years, CCFL Boston has played its fall seasons at Brighton's Cassidy Park and Charlestown High School, along with spring and summer seasons at Daly Field along the Charles River.
More than 25 years later, CCFL Boston continues to bring together players from across Greater Boston through competitive football, lasting friendships, and a shared love of the game.
Our Mission
CCFL Boston's mission is to provide the best possible flag football experience for players throughout Greater Boston.
The league, its organizers, and its players are committed to promoting participation in recreational sports, particularly flag football, across all levels of competition.
Through organized league play and tournaments, CCFL Boston strives to provide players, participants, and spectators with a fun, healthy, and competitive way to engage in community sports throughout the year.
We believe that recreational football should offer more than just competition. It should build camaraderie, encourage sportsmanship, and create an environment where players can enjoy the game season after season.
Our Goal
CCFL Boston has firmly established itself as one of Boston's premier men's flag football leagues.
Our goal is to continue growing the league while offering competitive tournaments that bring together some of the best 5-on-5 flag football teams in Greater Boston.
Our original tournament arm, known as Boston Fives, was created to expand competition beyond traditional seasonal league play and attract talented players and teams from throughout New England.
Today, that vision continues through the 5X5 Football Circuit, which builds upon CCFL Boston's competitive tradition by creating additional opportunities for regional tournament play and championship competition.
While CCFL Boston remains the foundation of our local spring and fall leagues, the 5X5 Football Circuit provides a broader stage for teams seeking competition beyond the regular season.
Our long-term goal remains the same: to promote competitive flag football, bring together the region's best teams, and crown a champion worthy of being recognized among Boston's finest.
